2010 Urban Zen Nutrition Workshop Calendar

Food Solutions:
A Whole Foods Approach to Wellness

The Urban Zen Center presents Food Solutions: A Whole Foods Approach to Wellness, six workshops that give you the practical tools to make food lifestyle change

Join me for the second installment in this series of ground-breaking, inspirational workshops focused on educating the Urban Zen community and beyond on navigating and restoring health through food:

March 3rd - Managing Autism, ADHD, Asthma and Allergies

With Dr. Stephen Cowan and Dr. Kenneth Bock

Learn how you can meet the special dietary needs of children living with Autism, ADHD, Asthma and Allergies from experts Kenneth Bock, MD author of "Healing the New Childhood Epidemics," and Pediatrician Stephen Cowan, MD. During this one day experiential workshop, you'll glean insights from experts working on the front lines of nutrition therapy and dietary management for children. Then get a taste of what the experts are really talking about through hands-on innovative food "labs" and cooking experiences that translate nutrition and dietary advice to the kitchen space and child's plate. Leave with the knowledge and the practical tools to implement restorative dietary practices into your children’s lives.

The workshops are under the direction of Amanda Archibald, RD and Culinary Nutritionist, Stefanie Bryn Sacks, MS, pioneers in the world of food and nutrition, dedicating their life work to developing a seamless conversation between health provider, nutritionist, the consumer and the kitchen. Together Archibald and Sacks have created the food tools and hands-on culinary experiences to help every American find new meaning in their relationship with food, food choice and personal health. The series will consist of six one-day workshops presented over the course of 2010. Each workshop will focus on a specific hot health topic that advocates dietary change as part of the healing plan. Panel discussions led by experts in the field, practical hands-on learning—in the kitchen—and food education activities are a vital part of this life-changing workshop experience. There has been an explosion of gluten free foods in the marketplace. From frozen foods and baked goods, to condiments and alcohol. Foods labeled gluten free are everywhere! And it’s not just food manufacturers that are riding the gluten free wave—restaurants, cosmetics and hair and skin care companies are a part of this emerging trend.

Join our gluten-free experts, Mary Beth Augustine, R.D., CDN, Registered Dietitian/Certified Nutritionist and Stefanie Bryn Sacks, M.S., Culinary Nutritionist to learn about this new trend from a clinical perspective and its practical life application. There will be lecture, discussion and product sampling from leading manufacturers and local vendors.
